Listed residential complexes from the 1920s and 1930s, such as the Flusspferdhofsiedlung housing estate, rub shoulders with single-family home neighbourhoods and tower blocks of up to eleven storeys from the 1970s. Küstriner Strasse is a linear distance of barely 250 metres away from Konrad-Wolf-Strasse, the artery connecting the sub-district and former hamlet of Hohenschönhausen with downtown Berlin. Located north of Konrad-Wolf-Strasse are the sports facilities of Sportforum, which attract athletes from all over Germany. The lakeside areas around Obersee and Orankesee provide plenty of recreational amenities. Directly next to the shore of Obersee lies Mies-van-der-Rohe-Haus, an architectural monument in the Bauhaus style that is internationally renowned for its exhibitions.
